Anti-Vaccine Preachers

This is pure idiocy.
An evangelical preacher demonstrated why Americans are more at risk of getting sick with the flu.

Doctors recommend that children and the elderly get flu shots every year because they are the most vulnerable members of the population to getting sick.

But Gloria Copeland, an evangelical prosperity gospel con artist whose church is based in Texas, told members of her congregation this week that they don’t need to get the shots because Jesus already took the shot for them.

“Listen, partners, we don’t have a flu season,” Copeland declared. “And don’t receive it when somebody threatens you with, ‘Everybody is getting the flu.’ We’ve already had our shot, He bore our sicknesses and carried our diseases. That’s what we stand on.”

If that is true, you need to spend a few weeks in constant contact with flu victims. After all, the jeebus "shot" will protect you, right?

The experiment might eliminate disease by curing the world of you.

The really bad thing is it doesn't just affect these idiots, it lowers herd immunity affecting those who for medical reasons can't be vaccinated.

True, otherwise we could just shrug and accept it as a case of evolution in action.

I do wonder if Copeland got herself vaccinated.

Well, considering that the 'flu vaccine' is unlikely to protect you from coming down with 'the flu', and what little protection that vaccines do provide is more unlikely with 'the elderly' and 'children', where the vaccines are even less effective.

Her logic is bizarre to the extreme, but the proponents of influenza vaccination are not particularly forthcoming, credible, nor trustworthy themselves.

Her advice is not nearly as harmful as you seem to think.

Depends how far it is taken. I can see a child in the church who develops type 1 diabetes dying from being deprived of insulin. It has happened before. :(

She's not saying it just about the flu.
There is no such thing as "politically correct." It's code for liberalism. The whole idea of "political correctness" was a brief academic flash-in-the-pan in the early 1990's, but has been a good conservative bugaboo ever since.

She's not?

That's not how I read it. She certainly is saying something about 'flu vaccines', but I don't see anything about other vaccines, much less insulin injections.

Do you have more than what was cited in the OP? Is she suggesting that any injection can be foregone because of Jesus? If that's the case, then, yes, she is a public health menace.

Fromthe article quoting her : "We’ve already had our shot, He bore our sicknesses and carried our diseases. That’s what we stand on."

Sure as hell sounds like she's talking about all diseases. Sounds like standard faith healing logic.

She's a public health menace if she says any kind of medical treatment whatsoever, injection or not, can be taken over by the dubious zombie. The specific treatment(s) being replaced only determine how much of a menace she is.

As long as everyone is consenting, I don't see the issue. It should be up to them. I think it should be illegal not a vaccinate kids though.

Some of these cases have to do with kids ("child in the church who develops type 1 diabetes dying from being deprived of insulin"). Children cannot give consent. So it's not just vaccination.

That means probably 95% of all vaccines, which are scheduled for administration during minority years.

So, your 'consenting' doesn't mean shit.

I think you are just smelling shit because your head is so firmly wedged up your own ass. Plenty of elderly get flu jabs.

Flu jabs are not vaccines, they are a pharmaceutical scam.

Well, while generally agreeing, the amount of treatment which is passed off as 'medical' is outright chicanery is appalling. And that's the part practiced by MDs. A huge portion of the medical profession itself is a menace.

Her husband is the single wealthiest preacher in the nation, with more than three quarters of a billion in his piggy bank. Not good credentials, in my opinion.

Maybe jeebus oughta give him a whack, like he supposedly did with the moneychangers in the temple.

Could just wait for him to fail the camel/needle "no rich man in heaven" gag, but that depends on heaven being there at all, so punishment unlikely.

Getting a flu shot is not 100% effective in all cases. But doing this gives you a better chance at avoiding getting very sick, so it is worth the taking trouble to get your shot.
It is the smart thing to do. As one gets older, a pneumonia vaccination is a good idea also.

Agreed on the pneumo vax. Also, I recommend the shingles vax for those who had the real deal on chicken pox as a 'childhood disease'.

However, I'd appreciate knowing where you got your information on the 'flu shot'. I keep posting the Cochrane Collaborative's lead epidemiologist on this topic and he basically describes the influenza vaccine as being extremely limited in effectiveness, even if it was the right vaccine for the right strain, which it usually isn't. The premiere arbiter of 'Evidence-Based Medicine' on influenza vaccines has deemed them a fraud. Post-infection treatment (oseltamivir/zanamivir) is even worse.

Saw an interesting story this morning.

Japanese drug stops flu in one day

I always take this sort of prediction with a certain skepticism- but if it turns out to be true, wonderful.

Given the complexity of situations which is hidden in the exceedingly ambiguous term 'flu', I would think that skepticism of this claim should be quite high.

Tamiflu came with the promise that the course could be shortened. The makers still claim it does, but assessment seems to indicate that the effectiveness is minimal AND it has deleterious side-effects for many.

The problem with Roo's argument against flu vaccinations is that it misstates the case for getting vaccinated. The argument is not that the vaccine will necessarily prevent you from getting the flu. It is that the vaccine will reduce your chances of getting it and that, if you get the flu, your immune system will be more effective at helping your recovery. Moreover, your chances are slightly improved at avoiding flu, even if the strain you are exposed to is not what you were vaccinated for.

See Why It's Still Worth Getting a Flu Shot

A shot of whiskey 4 x daily works for me. Takes about 7-10 days and the flu is cured.
