Internet Resources: Religion

Post by Jobar » Fri Oct 17, 2014 11:56 pm

This list is the result of a suggestion made by mattsidedish in this Announcements and Suggestions thread. It's meant to provide sources for study of religious topics of all sorts.

This thread will be closed, and only staff will be able to post to it; if you want to suggest possible sites to include, or to discuss sites on this list, go to the open Peanut Gallery thread.

I'll start out listing links as they're suggested and approved; later we may alphabetize them, or decide on some other means of organization.

ironchariots.org/
badnewsaboutchristianity.com/index.htm

From my own extensive list of resources-

jesusneverexisted.com/- defense of Jesus mythicism
biblegateway.com/- Assorted Bible editions, all searchable
evilbible.com/- One of the editions not available on the previous site!
infidels.org/library/- Former site of Internet Infidels discussion board, still a great library

Samnell suggests

religioustolerance.org/- General information about various religions

Religious Quotes

A great long list- well worth reading all of them. Some of these are humorous, but most of them are quite serious. Many famous ones, but plenty that I'd never seen before, too.

"If everything must have a cause, then God must have a cause. If there can be anything without a cause, it may just as well be the world as God, so that there cannot be any validity in that argument." — Bertrand Russell.

"The existence of God is not subjective: he either exists or he doesn't. It's not a matter of opinion. You can have your own opinions but you can't have your own facts." — Rick Gervais.

"I can't bring myself to believe in a God with a personality like my own. I base that on the paucity of lightning attacks on people who deserve it." — Scott Adams.

Our new member Serf suggested
http://www.sacred-texts.com/index.htm.

So far, the only religion I don't see covered there is Scientology!
