They've been very poor for a few years now.

But England have just taken a wicket. Looks like too little too late, though.

Jeez!

Lost on an overthrow on the last ball!

England have problems now, getting through to the finals.

I have to say that whilst I would normally rather eat my own vomit than watch cricket, we did get involved in watching the last couple of overs in the pub last night and it was decent viewing with the finish being so tight.

I take it this was something of an upset?

I don't begin to understand people who can happily take an interest in footie but spurn cricket.

Cricket is I think a more specialized game than soccer, not quite as much as American football with its sole focus on strategy, but 20/20 is getting more strategic than merely about skills.

And in latest big news, West Indies stuff Australia. On recent form, that's almost as big a shock as Holland beating England.

Watching India v Bangladesh at the moment. India got off to a flier, but Bangladesh starting to peg them back.

Uh oh, my disappointment at England losing has been completely eradicated by my joy at Australia getting thrashed. Think I'd better look over that Schadenfreude thread again

My condolences to those rooting for England. I didn't even realize that the Dutch played cricket. I thought it was just the UK and its former colonies.

West Indies are better at the short format nowadays. Australia are notably less good.

The shorter the game format, the more of a crapshoot it is. I think this is probably the biggest influence. So for instance when Gayle really clicks, the West Indies can beat anyone.

Also of course, the Aussies are still in their transitional phase.

It is a crapshoot but getting somewhat less so. On current form Australia should bring Gilchrist out of retirement and maybe Hayden and McGrath for 20/20. And make Warne the captain.

I'm actually more into the city franchises (IPL) now - they have a mix of international and Indian domestic players so it is quite interesting.

Do you have a preferred team, or is it still a bit too manufactured to care very deeply?

I must admit, since I don't have any satellite TV, the IPL passed me by almost completely. I heard that Pietersen was a bit rubbish, but that was about it. Who (amongst the international players) were the big players this time?

I'm from Chennai so I was rooting a bit for them, but I liked watching nearly all the matches. All the teams have some really good players. Kokata was the big disappointment and Mumbai the next worst. Bangalore and Hyderabad which were at the bottom of the table last year played the final. Gilchrist was quite murderous in I think the semi.

You can watch most of this stuff on the internet though the quality is not that great. Just google around for video streaming links, they tend to get moved around a bit as possiby the sponsors chase the irregular broadcasters though usually you can find a couple of streams that keep working.

Mm, I tried that with the football recently, but I got sick of it. Too much chasing the channels, not enough actual watching.

The most laughable coverage I saw was when the BBC streamed the last world cup. I watched a game with a team in green, Saudi Arabia maybe? Any time any of their players stopped running, they just disappeared

Try this - South Africa vs. Scotland at present, and England vs. Pakistan (crunch game for at least England I think) in a bit.
