I haven't thought of this song for years and years - and I don't think I've ever heard Neil's version, the first I found on youtube, before:-

I love Mozart in any form but have always been intrigued by the three note triplets repeated throughout the Andante Movement of the Piano concerto no 21 in C Major are sublime in their simplicity ( incidentally Neil diamond's 'Song sung Blue' is based on this musical construction)... So here is 'The Elvira Madigan'(Not loaded: E_jDSmZ5BQU)

That one is for David Cath. It would take a heart as lovely as his to understand.. it is all about love in its purest sense.

I listen to a lot of Breton music. Denez Prigent is my favorite singer these days. Here is one that may be familiar to you. The Breton lyrics (male voice only) are an allegory to the fall of the Twin Towers in NYC, but the song was a theme of the movie Blackhawk Down:

Another of his Breton laments is dedicated to one of the most polluted places on Earth, the Romanian town of Copsa Mica. It tells the tale of a mother who lost one child to the pollution, has another dying in the hospital, and a third, who wants to work in the local factory:

I didn't live in a Northern city, but some of the scenes here are still evocative:-

Just can't leave such a wonderful band with only one song. There is another Supertramp song called "Breakfast in America" that maybe would offend? But it too is insightful and very good.
