Default Warning: Spoof email from Apple doing the rounds

Hi all,

I got 2 of these emails today....

Quote:
Dear Member,

It has come to our attention that your account Billing Information records are out of date. That requires you to update your Billing Information. Failure to update your records will result in account termination.

Please update your records within 24 hours. Once you have updated your account records, your account session will not be interrupted and will continue as normal. Failure to update will result in cancellation of service, Terms of Service (TOS) violations or future billing problems.

Click on the reference link below and enter your login information on the following page to confirm your Billing Information records...
please go to http://store.apple.com to confirm your Billing Information records.

Thanks,
Apple Customer Support
They look reasonably official, but the link which says store.apple.com actually points to

hxxp://fotomovimiento15m.org/wp-content/plugins/akismet/apple.htm

I didn't make that URL clickable on purpose - don't go there!

I routinely and immediately delete mails that ask for login details and threaten with imminent account deletion.

Especially if, as in almost all cases so far, I don't have an account with the supposed originator.

And if they don't address me by name, I don't even read more than the header before deleting.

Ozymandias, things like that are NOT self-evident.

What phands described was some phishing. I get phish e-mails all the time, often from banks that I don't have accounts at. They have a way of seeming threatening, so I wouldn't be too hard on someone who falls for them. It's like chain letters that threaten bad things if you don't forward those letters.

Literally millions of people a year, that's who. Not everyone knows to look at the URL destination as opposed to the link text.
