I don't understand why Democrats are so reluctant to do this. It's not like they get anywhere with the Republicans by being "nice".

Is it analogous to the New Atheist/Accomodationalist debate? Except here the accomodationalists are definitely winning.

Because, the majority of them are just as inept and corrupt as the Republicans, not as concerned with, doing the right thing as, remaining in office?

I'd accept that, DanB, if you could ever point to ONE example where the Republicans sponsored a bill with a moral imperative with which almost NO ONE could disagree, and the Dems voted "no" and gave the excuse that they didn't like the procedure by which it was put up for a vote.

Like the Franken "Anti-rape" bill to allow rape victims in companies with government contracts the right to sue their attackers in court.

Oh, wait....... wrong party..... AGAIN.

Don't get me wrong. The Republicans have taken this to a whole new level but, they've done it because they believe their base constituency will reward them for it.

However, with a few of exceptions, this is the same congress which, acquiesced to the Bush administration and did nothing while it wiped its ass with the Constitution.

No politician that holds the same office for more than two terms remains uncorrupted. After they've held the office for that length of time, the thought of losing it and all its accompanying power and privilege scares them more than death itself.

Probably not. The Supreme Court just gave big corporations the right to spend as much money as they want to get their choices elected. The likelihood is that for the foreseeable future USonian "representatives" will represent corporations. Sorry to disappoint
