The discovery, reported in Nature, is being hailed as one of the most significant finds in decades because it illuminates a critical moment in evolution when ancient primates split into two separate lineages.

One group of primates gave rise to the Old World monkeys, which include baboons and macaques, while the other led to the great apes and, ultimately, Homo sapiens.

Oh, cool! I remember memorizing all of the different cladistic models for my primatology final a few years back, with mild horror. But the great thing about primate studies is that there's always something new and interesting turning up.

So maybe John Darnton with his 'fictional' book titled "Neanderthal" was closer to the truth than he was given credit for?
Either way it is a 'good read' as my daughter would say.
BTW his mother became the forst Women's editor of The New York Times. He won the Pulitzer Rize in 1982.
